Anne Hathaway Urges Fans to Dress Fashion-Forward for The Devil Wears Prada 2

Anne Hathaway is already gearing people up for her big sequel release of 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada. She herself has transitioned from a classic Hollywood glamour icon to embracing a trendy, bold aesthetic.

She recalls how much fun it was for the fans to wear their favorite hot pink dresses to watch Barbie in theaters in 2023. Anne Hathaway urges fans to show the same excitement and channel their inner Meryl Streep while heading to their nearest cinema on the day of release.

According to People, Hathaway expressed her wish.​

“I’m hoping everybody dresses up and goes to the movies…I’m hoping that everybody puts on their favorite Miranda Priestly-approved outfit and just has a blast.” [Source]

She opened up about how the film’s fashion had evolved after two decades had passed since the 2006 original. She explained that her character has been holding the position for 20 years and kept her ‘fashion’ statement alive, but with some adaptations.​

This is how fashion works, as we have to keep up with the up-to-date looks so that we feel confident and chic. She praised herself for wearing high heels for 16 weeks straight and believed she should be given a medal for that achievement.​

The 2006 film was famous for a reason, and the reason was its emblematic fashion sense, proving to be one of the most enduring fashion-focused films of that era. The costumes were curated by Patricia Field, who is also known for her work on Sex and the City (1998-2004).  

The exclusive runway looks were grabbed from Chanel, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Valentino, instantly giving the project a high-fashionista persona. Certainly, no one can ever forget Miranda Priestly’s powerfully magnetic dressing that defined her authority in specially tailored pinstripe suits, oversized sunglasses, and luxurious coats.

The feature’s fashion is considered timeless and remains a popular depiction of what trends looked like in the 2000s. Such a fashion is storytelling in itself as much as the stress involved in making fashion work is. Watching Andy run around to keep things according to Priestley’s liking, paving the way for the realization of her self-worth while trying to succeed in her job.

Since the original was more appealing to the Millennials, the sequel has the tendency to connect with new fashion audiences like Gen Z. Tapping into that fashion sense and relating it to a character like Miranda Priestly would help keep the film attractive to both generations.​
